29/05/2003 Guy Smith to drive for Team Maranello Concessionaires at Spa
Team Maranello Concessionaires, the British team currently leading the N-GT category in the Teams Classification, has announced that British driver Guy Smith will join the team for the Proximus 24 Hours of Spa. This announcement completes the line-up, the team having previously announced that Andrew Kirkaldy - third at Estoril with Tim Sudgen last year - would also be driving one of the team's two Ferrari 360 Modena cars. The team has not yet announced the actual driver line-up for the nr 88 and nr 89 cars.
Guy Smith is 28 years old, and moved to endurance racing after a successful single-seater career. Having driven in so many great endurance races including the Daytona 24 Hours, the Sebring 12 Hours, the Monza 1,000 Kms and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, an opportunity to drive in the Proximus 24 Hours of Spa is a personal goal for me," Smith said. "Having witnessed what TMC has achieved in the FIA GT Championship in such a short period of time, Im confident that joining the team will place me in the best possible position to secure victory in class at Spa next month.
This is a dream line-up for us, commented Rod Benoist, TMCs Team Manager. Spa is the most important race of the season as double points are available. To have six of the very best of British talent on board provides us with an excellent opportunity to strengthen our position in both the Drivers and Team Championships. I am absolutely confident that Guy and Andrew will make a significant contribution to the teams efforts.
