26/01/2010 Wendlinger to Race for Swiss Racing in GT1 World

On January 27, 2010 the Swiss racing team around Othmar Welti and Erich Kolb will introduce their two NISSAN GT-R racing cars and the first pilot to the public during a media presentation at the team’s location in Inwil (CH). Former F1 pilot Karl Wendlinger from Austria will be the first named pilot for one of the NISSAN GT-R’s. Negotiations with the second driver beside Karl Wendlinger are almost finished.
Wendlinger and Welti have already worked together successfully in FIA GT1 in the past. “With NISMO, Nissan Motorsports International Co., Ltd, the team can rely on a strong partner,” says Othmar Welti from Swiss Racing Team. “Our goal is definitely top rankings in the World Championship 2010. Chances are very good with the latest GT racing car, the NISSAN GT-R and the most successful FIA-GT pilots.”
The second NISSAN GT-R will be piloted by Swedish driver Max Nilsson who has been able to gain experience with the team in the German Formula 3 for many years. Max Nilsson proved during a guest stint in the FIA GT1 in Budapest in 2009 that he counts on the right team and that he will achieve great results in this series as well. The fourth and last cockpit, which is still to be assigned, is in great demand with interested parties. “We have not made a final decision yet because we want to find an equally strong team for the second car. We get calls from pilots who want a place in the cockpit on an almost daily basis. However, we want to take our time to choose the right pilot,” says Erich Kolb.
The FIA GT1 World Championship officially starts in Abu Dhabi on April 17, 2010.
