Report: Free Practice Quotes, Oschersleben 2005

Thomas Serwin – nr 23 Wieth Ferrari 550 Maranello

“Our practice sessions didn’t go too well. We tested here in January and we could do competitive times, around the 1:25 mark. Today, it seems we can’t get under 1:30. We’ve got massive oversteer; we tried going up and down, back and forth and nothing seems to make a difference – and now the clutch seems to be misbehaving. It hasn’t started out too well. We need to find five or six seconds – the guys won’t sleep tonight!”

Peter Kox – nr 13 Reiter Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT

“For me, the session went okay. We started in P1, then dropped back to P4; after that we concentrated further on the car. Norman did most of the driving, as he will be doing qualifying. It was a shame, we didn’t get the best out of the tyres. The car seems quite good – it’s consistent on the Michelin tyres for the race, but I’m a bit worried for qualifying. We have to get the car up there, because it’s so difficult to overtake here.”

Sebastian Stahl – nr 4 Konrad Saleen S7R

“This was my first time driving a car in the FIA GT Championship. For me, free practice was good. Every run I have to learn, so it’s important that I don’t have an accident, and don’t go beyond the maximum I can do. The time got better on each run, so I hope the time in qualifying will be better than today. We had some problems with the tyres and the brakes, but I think we will have those sorted out for tomorrow.”

Emanuele Busnelli – nr 74 Ebimotors Porsche 996

“Well, I had just a little accident. At Turn 9, I saw where the other cars were going, so I tried to follow them. A small part on the wheel broke, and it sent me into the barriers. I don’t think it will be a problem sorting the car out for tomorrow; before the accident it was going fine. I don’t understand how the other cars go through there without a problem, but the first time I try it – bang!”

Laurence Pearce – team principal, nr 14 Lister Storm

“It’s good to be back at Oschersleben – we raced here in 2002 and 2003. We used the practice sessions to work on the car. Both drivers went off the circuit this morning, and that damaged both sets of tyres, so that meant we couldn’t really set a time this afternoon.”

Timo Scheider – nr 9 Vitaphone Maserati MC12

“I missed the first session, because I was at Paul Ricard driving an A1 GP car. The first couple of laps, it felt very strange, because it’s a completely different driving style. But later on, I did a long run, and it felt fine, and in the end we did some really good lap times. Michael set the fastest time, even though we’ve got 90kg penalty weight, on new tyres and with low fuel. That’s our target, to qualify on the front row because overtaking here is so difficult.”

Emmanuel Collard – nr 66 GruppeM Porsche 996:

“The car was quite difficult to drive, because we have too much understeer, so we’re working on that for tomorrow. We’re close to the other GruppeM car, but well clear of the competition. It’s odd that they’re ahead of us, because they’re carrying 75kg ballast, so we have to work a bit more on our car.”
